Neil Wood Obituary

Neil Murrie Wood Neil Murrie Wood, 82, formally of Littlefield, passed away Aug. 18, 2013 at his home in Lubbock, Texas, where he had lived the past three years. Neil was born on Dec. 5, 1930 and grew up in Ft. Worth, Texas, the youngest of five children born to W.W. and Rebecca Murrie Wood. After graduating from Pascal High School, he moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech where he graduated with a degree in Agriculture. It was there that he met his future wife, Jackie Farr. They were married in Littlefield on May 8, 1953, shortly before they moved to El Paso where Neil served in the Army at Fort Bliss during the Korean War. Neil and Jackie then moved to Littlefield where they lived for 56 years and raised their two children. He was involved in farming, ranching, and the oil and gas industry. He loved the land, checking on his crops, feeding cattle, hunting quail and pheasant, and the excitement of bringing in a well. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Littlefield. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Lions Club, a member of Kappa Sigma, The Red Raider Club, and a valued member of the Board of Directors of First Federal Bank for 32 years. He was honored to have three scholarships named for him after his retirement last year. Neil loved his home in Colorado on the Gunnison River and treasured spending long summers there fly fishing, playing golf, and entertaining his family and friends. He enjoyed his morning coffee group at Dos Rios Country Club and his Thursday night poker club. He could often be found fishing in the middle of his favorite stream on his ATV. Survivors include his wife, Jackie; his children, Kim and Mark Green, and Blake and Renee Wood, all of Lubbock; his grandchildren, Lauren Green of Austin, Jake Green, Madison Wood, and Morgan Wood, all of Lubbock; his sister, Aubyn Sue Andrews, of Ft. Worth; and several nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, W.W. and Rebecca Wood; his brothers, Wendell and Edwin; and his sister, Joann Story. A celebration of Neil's life will be held at Lakeridge Methodist Chapel on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. following a family burial at Resthaven. Memorials may be sent to Cal Farley's Boy's Ranch, Lubbock Impact, or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com.
