Allin Budek Obituary

Allin Alla Budek LUBBOCK-On Jan. 18, 2015, Allin Alla Budek, 91, passed away. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 5, 2015, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in the Sun Room (48th and Salem), the Reverend Davis Price officiating. Following the service there will be light refreshments. Allin was born on June 19, 1923, in Kiev, Ukraine, to Olga (Von Intellan) and Igor Domansky. Predeceasing Allin were her husband, Herbert Budek and son, Michael. A son, Andrew Budek survives her as do cousins and their families. As was true for many Europeans during World War II, Allin and her family faced hardships and dislocations. Following the war, her family relocated to the US where she became a naturalized citizen. She was involved with art and photography her entire life. Art was her passion and she painted very day. She received training at the Art Academy in Kiev, and at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. She graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara. With her husband, Allin photographed and packaged the slides used by university professors in their courses, such as those on art history and related fields. Her art involved a variety of media and consisted primarily of landscapes and still lifes. Her works reside in galleries and museums and private collections locally and throughout the world: the Vatican, Notre Dame University, the Gerald Ford Presidential Library, the President Reagan Library, Cairo Presidential Palace, and in Germany, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Japan. As a portraitist, she was commissioned to paint portraits of Jehan Sadat, Sheik Ahmed Zaki Yamani, among others. In Lubbock, Allin was active in local art groups, such as the Friday Life Drawing class at the Garden and Arts Center. Her work was shown at the LHUCA, First Friday Art Trail, and in private showings. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She made loving friends wherever she lived.
