Oleta Adams Obituary

Oleta Bond Adams CROSBYTON-Oleta Bond Adams, 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, March 26, 2015, in her room at the Crosbyton Nursing Home. Mrs. Adams was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Royston, Texas, to George and Vera Bond. Her childhood was spent in Fisher County. The family moved to Crosbyton and Oleta graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1934. She worked for her father in his office as Crosby County Judge before marrying Alvie Adams in March, 1938. They made their first home in Caprock south of Ralls and began farming. Alvie farmed in Crosby County until he retired. They had two children. Oleta was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caprock and played the piano for the worship services. They moved to Ralls in 1950. Oleta attended First Baptist in Ralls and enjoyed the Ladies Sunday School Class, helped in VBS and other church ministries. She was a 50 year member of the Ralls Order of Eastern Star. She served many years as secretary and twice as Worthy Matron. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, crossword puzzles and later she always had a word-find book in her hand. She often spoke of the best time she ever had, and that was traveling around Texas in her small motor home. After Alvie's death, she moved to Crosbyton so she could be closer to her daughter Carolyn. She had many sweet people (especially Becky Cantu) who helped her to manage to stay in her home on Harrison Street until moving into the nursing home in 2010 at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvie; her sister, Marita Self; and her sister, Doris Bond. She is survived by her two children, Carolyn Dewbre and husband George of Crosbyton, and Jerry Adams and wife Sandra of Ralls; sisters, Emily Hailey of Lubbock, and Ina Bond of Banning, CA. Mam-ma loved her six grandchildren, Ronnie Dewbre, Cara Hancock, Hillary Hendrick, Buddy Adams, Holley Page and David Bowman. She had 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way. Special thanks go to Dr. Steve Alley for his diligent and loving care for so many years and the caring staff at Crosbyton Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Ralls Cemetery Chapel. Visitation will be held Friday, March 27, 2015 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton, Texas. The family suggest memorials be made to the Texas Boys Ranch P.O Box 5665 Lubbock, Texas 79408. Online condolences can be made at www.adamsfuneral.com.
