Nancy Fraser Obituary

FRASER, NANCY
Over the course of her 84 years, Nancy Fraser (June 17, 1929 - September 23, 2013) touched the hearts of people everywhere she went. From volunteering at Martha T. Berry nursing home to a small family diner named Dee Dee's, everyone loved her. She was honest with everyone (sometimes to a fault), a loyal and loving friend, spouse & mother who possessed the spunk of a 25 year old. Nancy always said she was born too early, as evidenced by her love of R & B and Hip hop music, which was quite entertaining to watch her enjoy. She loved going up to the cottage or traveling anywhere to just "get out of here!" She looked forward to her morning's with the breakfast group, the afternoon's she spent having lunch w/her special friend and niece Maureen, her 50+ years of weekly bridge games with "the girls" (Pat Spoutz, Georgia McKay and Carol Waring) and any outing with her kids and grand-kids. She preferred being anywhere noisy and among "young people" and you'd most likely find her enjoying a vodka and tonic - or "nip" as she called them. Nancy enjoyed a trip now and again to the casino, but only if she won. Losing even $20 was just "not cool". She was a fantastic cook, confirming the notion of her southern roots that everything tasted better with lots of butter and salt. If you had a secret that you needed to unburden yourself of, she was the vault in which to trust it. She despised gossip and bad news, going so far as to mute the newscast or block out newspaper articles that held such sad and disturbing things, never understanding why people couldn't just be kind to each other. A lesson not lost on her children and grandchildren. The loss of her wit, sass and wisdom will leave a hole in the hearts of all who loved her. Nancy was the greatest mother and grandmother any child could be blessed to have. She had a 61 year love affair with her one and only, Bob ~ since his passing in 2010, she longed only to be with him again. The years they spent together, raising their family and enjoying their lives was the epitome of happiness for her and everything else paled in comparison. We take comfort in knowing they have been reunited and are embracing each other once again. Nancy's unique sense of humor and personality live on in her children: Mark, Jeff, Kathryn (fiance Dave Masters) and Debbie; her grandchildren whom she cherished and loved unconditionally - Stefanie Fraser, Emily, Evan and Robert Soltis; and her sweet great-grandchildren Grace and Ayden Fraser. She is also survived by her nieces, Maureen Fraser and Kathy Fraser; great-nieces Roxanne (Bob) Steffen, Claudette (Matthew) Gambill; great-nephew Craig (Jennifer) Fraser; best girlfriend, Gloria (Jim) Houthoofd and many other friends and family too numerous to mention, but loved nonetheless. A small service to celebrate this truly one-of-a-kind lady will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main Street, Mount Clemens, MI 48043. Interment to follow at St. Peter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Martha T. Berry Medical Facility Memorial Fund, as Nancy would want it that way.
