Bonaire, Georgia - Mr. Edgar Black Services will be held Friday, January 29, 2021 at 10:00AM at Nelsons Memorial Mortuary Chapel. Edgar was born in Jones County, Gray Georgia on December 1, 1930 to Maggie Thurman. He departed this life January 8, 2021 at Houston Medical Center. Edgar attended the public schools of Jones County. On April 19, 1951 Edgar enlisted in the United States Army serving in the Korean War Conflict as a policeman. Edgar was a member for the International Union of operating Engineers Local 478 for 35 years prior to retiring, where he built notable buildings and highways in CT. Edgar was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a man of great integrity, soft spoken, kind, and generous to a fault. He was a caretaker to many and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Lucille Williams Black, his step-children; Gail Williams, Reuben Mathis, and Tara Ellis all of CT. Two cousins; Juanita Smith Mansell of SC and General Junior Smith of CT. Three nieces; Linda Pitts (Frank), Demetra Williams (Eugene) all of GA and Audrey Tureaud of FL. One nephew, Fred Black Jr., (Sylvia) of GA and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends also a special step-nephews; Gregory Williams and Spudgy Williams of GA and special friends; Charlie and Cleo Williams Claxton and Robert and Maxine Austin of CT. Edgar was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy Black, his mother, Maggie Thurman, and brothers; Leveran Morgan, Fred Black and Eddie Black.
