Blake Shurling Obituary

Blake Shurling
Tennille, GA- Blake Kenneth Shurling, age 20, of Tennille, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sandersville with Reverend Mike Bankston and Reverend Jimbo Dominey officiating. Burial will be at Piney Mt. United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matt Reid, Matthew Turner, Tyler Cullens, Nick Pullen, Austin Garrett, Justin Garrett, Andrew McNeely and Bo Brooker.
Blake was born in Augusta and was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was a 2014 graduate of Brentwood School where he played football, basketball, baseball and participated in the "First Mate" big brother, big sister program. Blake was a member of the 2012 and 2013 Brentwood state championship baseball teams. He was currently a junior at Georgia Southern University where he was pursuing a degree in construction management and enjoyed playing intramural football. He was an active member of the Piney Mt. United Methodist Church where he was involved with the youth group. Blake had a great passion in life for his family, friends, fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by so many whom he has impacted during his short life. He is predeceased by his grandfather, William H. Moats.
Survivors are; his parents, Barry K. and Renee Moats Shurling of Tennille; brother, Jonathan Butler Shurling and his wife Jessica of Adrian; grandparents, Evelyn M. Moats of Sandersville, and Jack and Mary E. Shurling of Tennille; his girlfriend and companion Rebecca McGahee of Augusta; many aunts, uncles and cousins, including, Leah M. Wiley of Warthen, Robert Shurling and his wife Gail of Tennille, Jimmy Shurling and his wife Cheryl of Ludowici, and Dawn S. Mills and her husband Heath of Gray.
The family will be at the Shurling residence on Old Savannah Road south of Tennille and they will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
Donations may be made to Brentwood School, P.O. Box 955, Sandersville, GA. 31082 or to the Piney Mt. UMC c/o Dianne Meeks, P.O. Box 1061, Sandersville, GA. 31082.
May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.

All of you are in our prayers and we are grieving with you. We pray that you will feel our Lord's loving arms around you now and in the days to come. We feel blessed to have been with Blake on several occasions when we were in Augusta. May you be able to find joy in the many happy memories of times spent with Blake.
