Singapore, Southeast Asia- Funeral services for Rev. Thomas Clifford Hunnicutt, Jr. were held Sunday, July 29 at Harvester Baptist Church in Singapore with his son, Cliff Hunnicutt III officiating. Interment followed in the Chua Chu Kang Christian Cemetery. Rev. Hunnicutt passed away Friday, July 27 at his residence in Singapore, Southeast Asia.
Rev. Hunnicutt was born in Macon, GA but moved to Swainsboro with his parents as a young boy. After graduating from Swainsboro High School, he served in the United Sates Navy during World War II. After his naval service, he worked with his father in Hunnicutt Funeral Home and was active in many local organizations in Emanuel County. He was the 1954 recipient of the Golden Deeds Award presented by the Swainsboro Exchange Club.
Rev. Hunnicutt was a member of Swainsboro First Baptist Church where he was ordained to the ministry in October 1955. He attended Furman University and graduated from California Baptist College. In the early years of his ministry, he pastored Oak Chapel Baptist Church in Kite, GA, Hillcrest Baptist Church in Swainsboro, Elam Baptist in Millen and Riverside Baptist Church in Belton, SC.
In 1960 Rev. Hunnicutt and his wife, Eloise, served as home missionaries in California with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. He pastored the First Spanish Baptist Church of Pomona, CA and taught Personal Evangelism at California Baptist College in Riverside, CA.
Feeling God's call to foreign missions Rev. Hunnicutt established India For Christ Missions in 1963 and served the Lord in Pune, India and the surrounding areas of Maharashtra State until December 1967.
Moving to Singapore in 1968 broadened the outreach of his ministry to Southeast Asia and India For Christ became The Harvester Baptist Mission. During a missionary ministry spanning over 53 years Rev. Hunnicutt faithfully served Christ and established churches in India, Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand. In many villages of India and remote islands of Indonesia he was the first missionary to ever share the Gospel message. A major focus of his ministry was training local pastors and evangelists and through these men, the ministry of The Harvester Baptist Mission continues today across Southeast Asia.
Rev. Hunnicutt is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eloise Hunnicutt of Singapore, a son, Cliff (Linda) Hunnicutt III of Troutman, NC and a daughter Terri (Larry) Compton of Swainsboro, 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
