1928-2014
MADISON - Alice Ouellette Saucier, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in East Madison in the early afternoon of Feb. 22 with her loving family by her side. Alice was born Alice Lillian Boynton in Connecticut on May 31, 1928 to Reginald and Leona Boynton. She graduated from the Leon Institute of Hair Design in Waterbury, Conn., in 1946 and shortly after her family moved to Smithfield, Maine.
Alice married Willard J. Ouellette on April 12, 1948, making their home in East Madison, and raising their family: Brad, Linda, Keith, Paul, Veronica and David. She was predeceased by Willard, who died on March 19, 1970, shortly after David's birth.
Alice combined and balanced motherhood with a career as a hairdresser. For many years she operated "Alice's Beauty Shoppe" in her East Madison home. Alice married Reginald (Reggie) Saucier on July 18, 1986. She sold her house and she and Reggie moved next door. Alice and Veronica opened "Alice and Company Salon and Spa" in downtown Skowhegan in 1989. The business expanded and eventually moved to its current location at the corner of Madison Avenue and Leavitt Street. Alice retired in 2001.
Alice had a lot of interests. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed music; playing the piano and accordion; maintaining her beautiful flowers and gardens; creating beautiful stained glass pieces, lamps and cabinet doors; needle point; knitting and quilting. Alice had a lifelong interest in horses and horseback riding - a pastime that has been passed on to her two daughters.
Alice was part of the fabric of East Madison. Through her own kindness and the interactions of her six children she touched the lives of many. The woman with the wonderful smile and the beautiful red hair will be missed by many.
Alice was predeceased by Reggie who passed away on Dec. 30, 2013, and brother, Larry Boynton. Alice is survived by her children, son Brad Ouellette and wife Linda, of Embden, daughter Linda Ouellette, of East Madison, son Keith Ouellette, of Madison, son Paul Ouellette, of East Madison, daughter Veronica Wright and husband Jim, of Cornville, son David Ouellette and wife Allison, of East Madison; and all of her beautiful grandchildren: Ryan Snell, Alicia Ouellette-Belmore, Renee Wright, Monica Ouellette, Steven Ouellette, Aliya Ouellette, Maranda Ouellette and Isaac Ouellette. She is also survived by her sister Loraine Arsenault and husband Frances.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Water Street, Skowhegan with Deacon Steve Kramer. Interment will be in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Skowhegan.
In lieu of flowers, Alice's family hopes you will plant a tree, a shrub, a flower and watch it grow and nurture it in memory of Alice's loving care of her gardens and her family.
Alice's family extends their appreciation to all of the hospice volunteers and nurses: Sister Janet Gagnon, Lynda Van Tuinen, and Suzie Matthews whose help, kindness and love helped Alice continue to live in the comfort of her home until her passing. It is in honor of their compassionate care that donations may be made in Alice's memory to MaineGeneral HomeCare & Hospice, 10 Water St., Waterville, ME 04901.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.

Thinking of you today and remembering our extended road trip looking for a special "rock" shop. It seemed as though I drove forever. We ended up in Kennebunkport where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. On the way back home, we didn't find a "rock" shop either. So much fun and so many laughs! Love you so much and miss you. May you be at peace in heaven!!!

Dear Children of Alice - her world and biggest love. Not knowing of her passing saddens me, but remembering her beautiful smile and love for life, makes me remember her with laughter and love. We were good friends for so long and knowing of her love for the Father and Son, makes me realize how content and happy she is in heaven. Knowing she is with Willy is so wonderful and she is finally home. She has been a "good and faithful servant". God Bless you all. We shall always hold her in our hearts and continue to love her dearly.

So sorry for your loss! I will miss seeing Alice sitting on her porch. Nancy & I stopped in to chat with her after our walks. She was a special lady. I remember when she cut my hair as a kid at your house. A piece of East Madison will be truly missed!

To the children of Alice, I will never say I know how you feel as relationships are like snowflakes, (one of a kind unique to only you). Enjoy the worst and the best of memories with a mamma that lived the greatest challenge, being a mamma; your mamma. And remember: When you look at your mother you are looking at the purest love you will ever know ~ Mitch Albom

To the Ouellette Family, my heart grieves with you today. I know your pain for I just lost my Mom this month also. You all took such great care of you Mom especially in these last several years. My great comfort is Psalm 139 especially where we are told that God watched us as were were formed in our mothers womb and the days for us were ordained by Him before we lived even one of them. God's love for us is more than we can comprehend, I pray you find peace and comfort in one another and in God who is Love. Your friend and neighbor

Once again, East Madison has lost another great lady. They don't come much better than my dear neighbor Alice. Such a happy lady and always busy tending her home , gardens and her favorite horses. Now its your turn to be waited on, so RIP beautiful lady, you certainly have earned the honor. X0
