ATHENS - Barbara Barker Tissue, 89, went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2018, following a brief illness.

Barbara resided in Winter Haven, Fla., for the last 13 years, but always called Maine her home.

Born on March 31, 1929 in Oakland, to Doris and Leland Barker, Barbara grew up in the Farmington area. She married Philip Lancaster on Aug. 11, 1948. Together they had two sons, Jeffrey and Dale. After losing Philip in a tragic accident, Barbara married a career military man, Adelbert Tissue, on Oct. 13, 1956. They traveled the U.S. and the world together and had another son, Mark. Whenever possible, Barbara returned to the home she loved in Athens, Maine. She would eventually run the family business, Tissue's Boarding Home in Athens, until the time of her retirement.

She was an active member of the Church of the Open Bible in Athens for many years.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents; her husbands; and her eldest son, Jeffrey. She is survived by her sons, Dale P. Lancaster (Deborah) of Maine and Mark A. Tissue (Kathy) of Winter Haven, Fla. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Claudia Lancaster of Junction, Texas. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Rowell of Norridgewock. She also leaves behind grandchildren; Jeffrey Lancaster and Joshua Lancaster (Alana) of Texas, Lisa O'Grady (Patrick), Aaron Tissue (Christina), and Robert Tissue (Angel) all of Florida, and Courtney Hopcroft (Jon) and Caitlyn Lancaster of Pennsylvania, as well as Allison Lancaster of Maine.

She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. Barbara will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends, but we rejoice in knowing that she is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

A celebration of her life was held on April 11, 2018 at the Church on the Hill in Dundee, Fla.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25, 2018 at the Mt. Rest Cemetery in Athens. A gathering of friends and family will take place at the Church of the Open Bible in Athens, following the service.
