Simone Labbe Obituary

Simone F. Labbe, 84
VAN BUREN - Simone F. Labbe, 84, passed away on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at a Van Buren healthcare facility.
She was born on Dec. 5, 1930, in Fort Kent, the daughter of the late Belonie and Anna (Martin) Fournier.
Simone owned and operated "Simone Shoes" a shoe store in Van Buren for many years. She was a devoted mother who took loving care of her sons for many years. Simone was also an excellent cook and had several recipes published in local cookbooks. Singing was a passion of hers and it gave her great joy. As a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church she sang with the church choir and was the principle soloist for hundreds of funeral services, weddings and other events. She proudly recorded three albums with the St. Bruno Church Choir and previously made several recordings with "The Fournier Sisters." Simone rarely had the opportunity to travel, but was thrilled to go with her daughter to visit her sister in Arizona, and do some sightseeing, especially the Grand Canyon.
She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Labbe and her husband Michael Doyle of Portland, two sons, Kurt Labbe and Troy Labbe, both of Van Buren; a brother, Robert Fournier and his wife Laura of Hamlin; many brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and her two cats, Gigi and Cricket. Besides her parents, Simone was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Donald A. Labbe, in 2011; and several siblings, including Claire Merritt, with whom she was very close.
Simone's family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of Borderview Rehab and Living Center for their exceptional care during the time she was a resident.
A Catholic memorial service for Simone will be announced in the spring by Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. To share condolences online, please visit www.lajoiefuneralhome.com.

I remember with joy the friendly laughter of this beautiful girl classmate. To this day tears come to my eyes remembering the beautiful heart rending song she sang for me at my mother's funeral. Heaven must be a more cheerful place with her there.

Dear Vickie, Kurt & Troy,
Dave and I want to offer you our deepest condolences. Your Mom was so good to her sister Claire and we will miss her so very much. You will always have a family in us and though we live a distance away, I know we can lean on each other through the difficult times and hopefully get together now and then to celebrate the good times.
