Lisa York Obituary

Lisa Kimberley Nunn York
Aug. 10, 1954 ~ Mar. 10, 2016
Resident of Sausalito, CA
Lisa was born at a US Navy hospital in the Mare Island shipyard in 1954. She moved to Walnut Creek for kindergarten in 1959 and graduated from Ygnacio Valley HS with the boisterous class of 1972. She cocktail waitressed her way through UCLA, graduating with a BA in Art History in 1976. She was flirted with on many occasions by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Westwood bar where she worked, but claims to have cut him off consistently with "Like I'm gonna fall for that?"
Lisa was a gourmet, and a wine connoisseur and worked in the viniculture industry in the late 1970s through the late 1980s for several wineries including Sebastiani and Clos Du Bois, where she was a very successful regional sales VP.
Around 1990 she married Dick York of Sausalito, CA and they sailed the world for the next few years. In the mid-1990s they settled in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they bought land along the coast and created "The Iguana Farm", a beautiful multi-storied, open-air structure, built sustainably into the cliffs nearby. In the late 1990s she produced the "Puerto Vallarta Festival Gourmet", a gathering of international food and wine bon vivants! In the early 2000s they moved back to Sausalito.
Lisa was a collector of African, Mexican and Tibetan folk art as well as an eclectic group of paintings. She was a fluent Spanish speaker, having traveled extensively around South America and Spain. She also spoke passable Italian and an oddly "rustic" French. Lisa had a wealth of friends in Puerto Vallarta, in the wine industry, and across the Sausalito community.
Lisa's warmth and humor will be hugely missed by her family--her parents Don & Madelyn Nunn of Walnut Creek, CA, her brother Kurt Nunn also of Walnut Creek, his wife Lynda, and their two daughters, Shiney and Aly, her brother Doug Nunn of Mendocino, his wife, Christine Samas, their kids Haley and Nathan. and Lisa's devoted friend, Andy Carlson of Missoula, Montana. Lisa will always by remembered for her hearty sense of humor, her "kick ass cowboy boots", and her world of friends made more joyful by her presence. A Celebration of Lisa's life will be held at a later date.

I think of Lisa often and miss her big smile. I always looked forward to our talks and visits because she was always so supportive and positive. She genuinely cared about you as a person and that is a quality that is hard to find. She was one of the most beautiful people I will ever know both inside and out. Love you my friend.

Lisa,
I so miss you and your joyful smile! Little did I know when you called me and asked to come up to Asti that you missed the good times and memories there, that it would be the last time I would see you and enjoy your wonderful spirit! Last night I looked up at the shining stars at Asti and wondered which shining star you are ! You light up my life, and so many others! May you enjoy peace and happiness as you are the life of the party up there!

What a terrible loss. I had the pleasure of working for Dick and Lisa throughout the years and they could only be described as wonderful and generous people. Condolences to her family. She will be sorely missed.

Lisa was a big part of our spin community at the Bay Club Marin. I was so fortunate to have her and her very friendly spirit and smile beam from the 2nd row every Wednesday and Saturday mornings. We are sorry to hear that she has passed and want to wish her family and loved ones much warmth and many blessings!

Lisa, you lived a life 99% of the world would dream of. You brought happiness to everyone you came in contact with because your smile and energy was as pure as can be. Our kids,(Sianne and TT), will miss you picking them up and spoiling them for the day, as well as, the rest of us just missing you. Its nice to know you're with Dick discussing what's for dinner.....Meech Carr
