I will never forget Doug. He inspired me all those years ago as my Pastor at Macungie Baptist Church, and He still does today. I myself am a Pastor today, serving in my local church because of him and his incredible teachings of the scripture. Today, my teaching and preaching mirrors his. I frequently hear his words passing through my lips. I learned more about the word of God and the love and mercy of Christ from him than I did in seminary. I can never describe how much he meant to me and my family. Seven years later we still miss him deeply. I miss him every day. I love him and remember him so fondly. He was one of a kind. My mentor, my friend, and my brother; I will see him again one day at the west gate in the New Jerusalem. Until then he lives on every day in my memories and my ministry for the Lord.
Thank you Doug. You are missed.

What brought me here today will be a life's mystery. I surmise I was thinking of my youth and the times one would spent without a care. Many a day was spent at the Seidel house on Green Pond Road, followed by trips to the 25th St. Woolworth's for a 35 cent hoagie, a walk in the shrine to find quartz crystals, and my home. Doug and I both went to Palmer Twp. Elementary, Easton High and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was one of my best friends. After graduation, I joined tyhe US Navy and lost contact with Doug. It was about 3 or 4 years ago that I had heard he had passed. His journey on earth complete, a job well done. Rest in Peace, Dear Friend. You are gone from our sight, but never from our heart.

Doug and I met at Muhlenberg College and were friends for many years. I always appreciated his sensitivity and intelligence. His deepest loves were sharing his knowledge of the Bible and heirloom roses, but he was also a fantastic cook and collector of religious relics! I will miss his presence on this earth. May perpetual light shine upon you, Doug, and may choirs of angels sing you to your rest.

Doug and I were great friends at Muhlenberg College. His father and mine, I believe, attended Princeton together too. I had lost touch with Doug over the years and found contact info on Facebook. I was devastated to learn that he was nearing the end of his cancer at that time. I was able to talk with him several times and visit him once for a simple soup, which felt like a sacrament. One of my happiest memories of Doug was walking with him in an herb garden near the college. He knew all the plants and their uses and I was amazed at his horticultural knowledge. We both loved languages, singing in the College Choir, the evening Communion services we shared with a close Christian community at 'berg and both of us went on to be ordained as pastors. I know that Doug was looking forward to the amazing gardens he's seeing now in God's love.

On behalf of my recently deceased Father and myself please accept our sympathy. Dad was humbled to count Doug as a "son of the congregation" among the six from Good Shepherd that served the Lord in ministry. I recall his vibrant smile, love for the Lord and his joie de vivre.
To Bruce, Barbara and Stuart and your entire family...may God grant you His peace.
A bouquet for your journey

In the mid-90's, Doug Seidel led a group of Master Gardeners through Easton Cemetery's antique rose collection. Anecdotal descriptions of historical roses poured forth from him as our large group walked across acres of beautiful plantings. He vividly described the lineage of each rose, its European beginnings, and detailed famous monarchs whose gardens included each named specimen. We were all encouraged to take cuttings from these "pieces of history" to help spread their stories and encourage other gardeners to also love and perpetuate the antique roses. I returned to Easton Cemetery many times after that eye-opening lecture and have three gorgeous specimens in my private garden, now mature roses, grown from cuttings taken there. I was mesmerized by Doug's encyclopedic knowledge and his obvious respect for each and every rose he described that day. Our group was also greatly privileged to stroll through his own garden for a continuation of the plant lover's celebration. Doug Seidel was a gracious host, generous to a fault and made a lasting impression. Thoughts of his enthusiasm and expertise will always be a crisp, clear memory. My condolences to his family, close friends and parishioners.

He was a remarkable Christian. He was a teacher of our Lord and a giver of his love. He taught so many of us to love the Lord, he was a true disciple. May his memory be enternal. Anna Velesaris

Pastor Seidel married me and my husband. I met my husband at Macungie Baptist when I went there for a few years. I attended bible studies at his home and enjoyed growing in the Lord as I listened to his sermons in church and on the radio. I remember the game the singles used to play: all of us against Pastor Seidel and he won, lol. He was incredibly intelligent. I was amazed at the relationships he had with local people he would cook for and minister to. I'll always remember him from those early days in my walk with the Lord. I look forward to seeing him again someday in glory!

His knowledge of scripture was tremendous. Truly an encouragement and inspiration to me and my whole family. He always was, and always shall be, our only Pastor. His loss is immeasurable. He will be sorely missed.

I felt a deep sense of sadness and loss upon learning of Doug's too-soon passing. He was a good friend and mentor at Muhlenberg, and I will always fondly remember lots of laughs and serious conversation. He will be greatly missed.
