Barry Gebhart Obituary

Barry L. Gebhart, 75, of Lower Saucon Township, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Sandra (Mease) Gebhart, with whom he shared over 55 years of loving marriage. Born in Sellersville, Barry was the son of the late Clarence L. and Marie (Quintrell) Gebhart. After graduating from Liberty High School in 1959, he went on to work as an electrician for Bethlehem Steel Corp, retiring in 1997 as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was very active in local government, and was a founder of the Lower Saucon Water Authority in 1977. He also served on the Lower Saucon Township Council, as the mayor and later as the president. For many years he served as the liaison between the Council and the Water Authority. He was also a founder of SauconFest in the late 1980's, and enjoyed playing trumpet and bass for the band "Chaparral" for over 20 years. Barry was also a silversmith, and made and sold many pieces of jewelry, exhibiting locally and at numerous craft shows. He participated in Musikfest and ChristKindlmarkt for over 20 years, and was a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Barry was a member of Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem. Survivors: wife Sandra; children Susan M. Schlack and her husband Steven of Bethlehem, Timothy C. Gebhart and his wife Bethany of Minot, ND, Christian Gebhart and his wife Allie of Bethlehem, Carol Brumbaugh of Telford; grandchildren Devon and Spencer Schlack, Ethan Brumbaugh; sister Brenda Morrow and her husband Tony of Biloxi, MS. Barry was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Gebhart. Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 29, at the Old Chapel of Central Moravian Church, Heckewelder Place, Bethlehem. Interment will be private. Arrangements entrusted to the Cantlemi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.longfuneralhome.com Contributions: in lieu of flowers to: Central Moravian Church, 73 W. I knew Barry from Liberty High School. Also, his daughter Susan lived next door to me in Bethlehem. To Barry's family I extend my sincere sympathy. He was a wonderful person and will be remembered by everyone who knew him.
