Doris Dunagan Obituary

Doris was born on May 5, 1933, in Dennison, Ohio, and lived to the age of 92. She spent 11 years in Lincoln Park, Michigan, where she completed eighth grade before moving with her parents to Fontana, California. Doris graduated from Colton Union High School in 1951, then from San Bernardino Valley Junior College in 1963, and later earned a science degree from Lee College in 1988.

She met Forrest Beckette Dunagan in Fontana, California, and they married in 1956. Their marriage spanned 58 years until Forrest's passing in February 2015. Together, they lived in Southern California until 1965, when Shell Oil Company relocated them to the San Francisco Bay Area. Eight years later, in 1973, they moved to Howell, New Jersey, living there for ten years. Their final move was to Marietta, Georgia, where Doris resided for 43 years before settling at Atherton Place in 2017, living independently until her death.

Professionally, Doris worked for both the State of California and the State of Georgia Insurance Department in Atlanta. Her dedication to community and service was evident throughout her life: she was a member of the Eastern Star for over 75 years since October 1951, joined The Daughter's of the Nile in 1995 serving as a dancer, president, and banker, and led the Blackwell Homemakers Club, one of Cobb County's oldest women's groups. Doris was also active in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for 18 years, participating in TLC Circle, Altar Guild, and Quilting Society, and she sang in the choir and volunteered in the music department at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. Additionally, she belonged to the American Legion Post 160 in Smyrna, Georgia, for more than a decade, and served as President of LOHettes (LOH) in 1994.

She is survived by her two daughters, Diane Dunagan Day (married to Douglas Day) and Linda Marie Rogers (married to Craig Rogers); four grandchildren: Gregory Todd, Ashley Todd, Kyle Rogers, and Michael Rogers (married to Cathy Rogers); and one great-grandson, Tristan Todd.

My condolences to all the family of Doris Dunagan. Doris and I sang in the Mt. Bethel choir. She was always such a pleasant person and we both loved to sing in the choir.
