I just found out of his passing from a Christmas Card from his wife Lynn, I havent worked for john 4 years, but I always sent a Card to his family....truly saddened, I would have like to have known and paid my last respects to him.....be missed

I haven't seen him in many years, but I remember him fondly for being a gracious man with a great sense of humor and a good sport - he took teasing well - which I gave him more than my fair share. He was honest and fair and a straight shooter - I'm sad that he's gone but happy to have known and worked with him.

I do have a story about him when I first worked with him at Raynet - he was still trying to get his bearings at the time. I walked into his office and he was at a meeting but left on his computer was a half composed email, to a half dozen friends of his at work, an invitation to his birthday ( I think). Of course I thought it would be funny to play some mischief so I completed the email for him and invited everyone at the company (about 750 people then) - offering beer, BBQ and asking folks to bring their friends along too. I hit send. The thing was that back then on our corporate email you could unsend a message to retrieve it before it hit the server. So I did that but deleted the unsend from his inbox except for the copy that went to me. I went to my office and sent him a reply telling him that it was the talk of the company and we were all coming.

I walked back to his office about an hour later and found him staring in shock at his email reading my message. I bounced in and told him this was so great of him to do this. He promptly turned and with a fearful quiver in his voice just said " I don't know what i did - but my wife is going to kill me...." He explained that he didn't know the new system and that he was only having a few people over and if there was anything i could do - with a sad face i looked at him and said "dude, you are soooo screwed..... So! what can I bring!?"

I still crack up thinking about that - of course I eventually told him that all was well and he promised to get me someday - which he never did - he was that good a guy.

I am so sorry to read about John. I will miss him as I enjoyed working with him at Raynet and later Ericsson Fiber access. He always behaved in a fair and professional way, and in doing so he was admired and respected by all his workmates. He will be missed.
