Joseph Varriale Obituary

Joseph Paul Varriale passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at the age of 87. He was the son of Mathilda (Yamartino) Varriale and Victor E. Varriale of Waltham. He was born in Waltham and served his country with honor in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant. As a young man he worked at Waltham Watch Factory in Waltham, as a watchmaker. It was there that he met and married his wife of 63 years, who survives him, Lorraine Begin Varriale. In 1956, Joe and his family moved to Sudbury, where they raised their large family. Joe became proprietor of Pinefield Jewelers in Framingham, beginning in 1958, until his retirement to Florida in 1985. Joes sister, Clara Particelli, survives him and he was predeceased by his brothers, Alphonse, Charles and Oscar. Joe is survived by his children, Victor (Karen) of Westborough, Richard (Pamela) of Medway, Elaine DeAngelis of Warwick, R.I., Paul (Maria) of Sudbury, Peter (Jennifer) of Framingham, and Anne (Neil) Zecker of Lawrenceville, Ga. His son, John, predeceased him in 1974 and they are now together. He also leaves his grandchildren, Derek and Tracy (and their mother, Linda), Jason, Christopher, Christine, Tyler, Joseph and Alex, as well as leaving four great-granddaughters, Ashley, Brooklynn, Sarah and Clare. Joe leaves behind many cousins and nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather at a memorial Mass at Prince of Peace Church on Nova Road in Ormond Beach, Fla., on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to a repast which will follow the church service at Riviera Country Club in Ormond Beach. A funeral Mass and burial will be held by the family in Sudbury and Waltham this summer. The family asks that in lieu of sending flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Halifax Hospice, located at 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.

We were saddened to hear about the loss of your Dad, what a great man he was. I remember first meeting him at Pinefield Jewelers, my family went there for years.
Know that he is being thought of and prayed for as all of you are. Take care, remember he will always live in your heart and mind, smile at the memories.

Dear Aunt Lorraine & cousins:

I have very fond memories of Uncle Joe from the large family gatherings at your house in Sudbury, MA. I am sorry to learn of Uncle Joe's passing. Although we lost touch through the years, I still remember him pulling me out of your backyard swimming pool when I nearly drowned. Too bad we never got together in Florida.

Aunt Lorraine, I know you will find the strength to carry on. Bon courage. Your long lost nephew in Florida.
