Peter MacArthur Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boston Cremation - Malden Care Center on Feb. 6, 2026.
Peter MacArthur, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and the beloved "Tomato King" of Holliston, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Brigham and Women Hospital in Boston on January 2, 2026, at the age of 70. He was born on May 16, 1955, in Needham, Massachusetts to his devoted parents, Ruth and Curtis MacArthur, and grew up to be a man of the earth, a cultivator of life in both his gardens and his relationships.

Peter's life was a testament to the power of nurturing, both the land and the bonds of family. He was a graduate of Norfolk County Agricultural High School in Walpole, Massachusetts, where he first discovered his green thumb and passion for agriculture. In 1982, alongside his loving wife, Helen, he opened a farm stand that quickly became a cornerstone of the Holliston ,Massachusetts community. Peter and Helen worked side by side, providing residents with potted plants, vegetable seedlings, and, most notably, Peter's award-winning tomatoes. For over two decades, his tomatoes were celebrated at the Massachusetts Tomato Contest, where he consistently placed in the top three spots since 2004. His customers eagerly anticipated the fruits of his labor each year, and his exceptional produce earned him the affectionate title of the "Tomato King."

Beyond the warm summer months, Peter's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly in winter. His Christmas tree business became a cherished tradition for countless families, who year after year, trusted Peter and Helen to provide the centerpiece of their holiday celebrations.

Beyond his agricultural achievements, Peter was a man of many interests. He loved skiing and took great joy in sharing this passion with his family. Winter vacations were spent carving through the snow-capped mountains of Heavenly and Kirkwood in Lake Tahoe, creating cherished memories during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Summers brought a different kind of adventure as he navigated the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee with his family, his laughter echoing across the waves.

He leaves behind his wife Helen MacArthur, his sons Brad and Danny MacArthur, his daughter and son-in-law Katie and George Pierce, and his adored grandchildren Jamie, Jaxon, and Carter. Peter's presence will be profoundly missed, but the love and laughter he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Peter's legacy will live on through the rich soil of his gardens, the laughter of his family, and the countless lives he touched with his generosity and spirit.

A memorial service will be held on March 21, 2026 at First Congregational Church of Holliston at 9:00am . Followed by a celebration of life in Framingham.
