Linda Norton Obituary

Norton, Linda M.
Linda M. Norton, 75, of Camden, Maine passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at The Sussman House in Rockport Maine with her dear friend Phyllis K Lee at her side. Born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 17, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Ernest C. Norton and Ruth Leadbetter Norton of Portland, Connecticut. Linda was a graduate of Portland High School, Class of 1961. After high school, Linda spent time in both England and Ireland pursing equine studies. Linda will be remembered forever through her incredible watercolor paintings. As a self-taught artist, much of her inspiration came from the beauty of nature and the constantly changing weather of Penobscot Bay on the Maine coast. Linda was an Elected Artist member of the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme, CT, a Member of the American Society of Marine Artists, and a U.S Coast Guard Artist. Linda's work has been juried into Museum tours from coast to coast and her work is held in private collections nationwide and internationally. Linda is survived by, and will be dearly missed by, her daughters; Rebecca Hodge of Cobalt, CT and Rachel Steer of Middle Haddam, CT; her two grandsons Tyler Hodge and Kendrick Steer. She was predeceased by her brother, Gilbert M Norton. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 8th at 1 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers, or those who wish, memorial donations may be made to P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center, 123 John St, Camden, ME 04843. To share memories or express condolences online please visit

Becky and Rachel, I hope you might remember me from when we were all young and I rode and did 4-H with your mom. I often think of her and was sad to find her obituary. I lost my mother only a few weeks prior to your mom´s passing, so I know too well what a profound loss it is. Your mother was so incredibly important to me, and I am grateful to you both for sharing some of her time with me during those years. I am blessed to still ride and show, and I have never forgotten the sound of her voice gently but firmly teaching me with so much kindness. It truly has been a life-long gift. I also have a treasured watercolor of hers, that my older daughter has in her home. I wish you happy and healthy lives and families, and you have my deepest sympathy for your loss. Warm wishes, Leslee (Ives) Hill (now of Arlington, Vermont).

I had met Linda on several occasions on my walks through Camden as she worked her garden. She invited me in to her home and we talked about her beautiful artwork, her family and a mutual connection to Nova Scotia. I didnt know her very well but I liked what I knew of her. I was saddened to hear of her passing. Praying for her family and friends.

We were able to visit with Linda two summers ago when we were in the Camden area. Linda used to come in the Coffee Pot in Portland, CT when we were the owners. She was a very gracious lady.
Our sympathies to you.
