Jerry Jeffrey Obituary

JERRY CHAPMAN JEFFREY Jerry Chapman Jeffrey, 63, of Moberly passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. He was born in Moberly on September 9, 1961, to Jerry T. and Carolyn S. Jeffrey and is a third-generation Moberly resident. He was a lifelong member of Coates Street Presbyterian Church which many family members had attended since his maternal grandmother Lavinia's days there, including aunts, uncles, and cousins, too. Jerry was a fixture of civic involvement in Moberly for many years and was passionate about giving back to the community that he loved. He spent 9 years serving on the Moberly City Council beginning in 2015, serving as mayor from 2017 - 2023. He volunteered for many years for the Moberly High School booster club and was often seen with his grill serving delicious food at Homecoming and other home football games to support the team. He led the committee that held the Homecoming Big Bash for 20 years. He was the current Chairman of the Moberly Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees and also served as a board member for the Moberly Area Community College Foundation, and the Moberly Rotary Club. As an active member of Rotary Club, he worked on many initiatives through the years including the annual Moberly High School Top Ten Banquet, at which he was the keynote speaker in 2011, and Railroad Days. He previously served as a board member for the United Way of Randolph County, a board member, officer, and president for The Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce, Randolph Area YMCA, and a board member, and chairman of the Moberly Economic Development. He served as president of the Moberly Alumni Association and was instrumental in setting up the Distinguished Educator and Distinguished Alumni awards, as well as the MHS Alumni Scholarship. Jerry graduated from Moberly Senior High School in 1980. While attending Moberly Senior High School, Jerry was an elected member of the MHS Student Senate all 4 years. His activities included 4 years of concert choir and he was a member of the men's double quartet ensemble that qualified for all district and the state vocal music contest. He was also a cast member of the musical productions of "Oklahoma!" and "West Side Story" and a member of the production crew for "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot". Jerry attained an all-conference and all-district selection in football his senior year. He was also selected as a first-team all-state linebacker. In track and field, Jerry was a 2-year conference and district champion in the discus. He earned a trip to the Missouri State Track Meet his junior and senior years, placing 4th in State in the discus his senior year. He attended the Missouri Boys State his junior year. He was elected to the National Honor Society his senior year. He then attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics in 1984. While at the University, he played for the Missouri Tigers football team as an offensive guard and special teams and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He continued to support Mizzou Athletics through the Tiger Scholarship Fund, the Letterwinners Club, and the Mizzou Alumni Association. Upon graduation, Jerry entered the training and licensing programs as a registered representative in the securities industry. In 1986, he started the first office in Perryville, Missouri for Edward Jones and Company. While in Perryville, he was a volunteer coach for the high school football team, as well as being active in the community in other ways. Jerry moved back to his hometown in 1995, opening an office for the firm of A.G. Edwards. He was a financial advisor for 30 years in the Moberly office with A.G. Edwards and then Wells Fargo. He was devoted to the Jeffrey family farm as he worked closely with his parents on the management and legacy of the farm, raising crops, and hay, and managing the cattle operation. Jerry and Leigh married in July 2011 after many years of being together. Through those years, they enjoyed tailgating at all Mizzou football games where they prepared many a spread for his family and friends over the years. They also loved cooking for holiday dinners and get-togethers with Jerry happy to prepare the main course, often on his grill or smoker. They attended many Mizzou Tigers basketball games as well. Jerry was an avid fisherman and hunter and hosted college friends annually for the opening of deer season. Jerry is survived by his wife Leigh Penner Jeffrey as well as the children he considered his own, Kara Brietzke and her husband Adam of Columbia, Michele Furrow and her husband Cheyenne of Kansas City, and Kyle Oberkrom and his wife Rebecca of St. Louis. He was a loving grandparent to grandchildren Jackson Connor Furrow and Quinn Brietzke and he enjoyed having them visit him while he worked on the farm. He is also survived by his sister Lisa Jeffrey Carroll and her husband Brent, his brother Steven Jeffrey and his wife Sara, as well as nieces and nephews Alex and Ryan (Anna) Carroll, and Hope, Greyson (Hallie), Chase, and Max Jeffrey. He was blessed with a number of close cousins on both sides of the family still remaining. Jerry is preceded in death by both of his parents.
