As near as can be recalled I first met Skip about 16 years ago on a tennis court at Breton Woods. I was told he was primarily a golfer but wanted to play some tennis. I think it was all a "con". The results will not be divulged here (it's still distressing) but Skip and his teammate, whose name also will not be divulged, made some very interesting line calls!
The last time I saw Skip was somewhat over a year ago at Reagan National Airport. It was an early Monday morning and he was going north and I was headed south and we were departing from adjacent gates. Waiting to board I looked up and there was Skip, one of the few guys to whom I must look up! We exchanged the usual inquiries and responses about families, health and business. He reassured me about two of my family and asked about the others. As always Skip was on top of things and in a few minutes covered "all the bases". Insightful, charming and courteous.
After learning of the finality of his illness several weeks ago, I reminded Skip how special were the singular opportunies he provided young people as well as his teaching and mentoring those who grabbed the opportunities. Also special was his empathy for others which was exemplified for me when he conferred about the "continuing education" of a certain associate and later about the relocation of a young family.
The more I've reflected on these and impressions recounted by others during the past couple of weeks, the more I think God had a special plan for Skip's life. Those chosen by the Lord for special missions must be special people. Well, to attain that specialness Skip went through some of life's training but think about how much good Skip provided before leaving us. And he hasn't really left us. Can't you picture Skip and his wonderful smile planning how he is going to spread more good. He may very well be involved with the corps of guardian angels. Now he could be teaching and prodding angels to be more productive likey using choice expletives, when needed, to ensure the neophytes remember his teachings.
Dad was many things to us all, even a grandfather.

Skip,
When I remember my last day at Rydex, I would have never imagined it would be the last time I saw you...
Many of my wonderful, former colleagues at Rydex know that my husband and I moved to Florida after my husband was laid-off. One of the most difficult aspects of relocating was leaving my caring, family at Rydex. Skip was our father-figure in every sense. He reminded me of all the qualities I admire in my own father. He was firm yet caring, a man who valued honest work and someone who never would ask you to do something he himself would not have done. Thank you Skip for allowing me to have my first real job. You will be missed and my prayers and thoughts go to your family.
I know you'll be checking in on us all. God bless

Skip was one of "the men in my little girls life". Beth Riley is my daughter and has worked at Rydex for over five years. In 1998 she interviewed with this little mutual fund company in Rockville, she came home excited about the opportunity to work with such great people. Even the founder of the company was part of the interviewing process; he was intimidating but a nice and caring man.
From the first day the culture of Rydex shone through: from the "thanks for a good job" lollipops from Skip, to the importance placed on people answering the phone during busy trading times, to the insight of the mentoring program during the company's rapid growth and hanging together when the market went south. Skips' leadership was always there.
I personally feel a huge void with his passing. This tall man that attended my daughters wedding, when asked his relationship to the bride or groom humbly replied "I work with Beth". That was Skip.
He was a kind and caring man with a no nonsense attitude. A true leader among men.
Although our friendship was brief, I treasured the time spent, the laughter shared, and the caring that those around him would have the opportunity to be the best they could be.
Skip I will miss you. Thank you for being a special "man in my little girls life."

Skip was a friend for the last 10-12 years. He was insightful, imaginitive and innovative. But most of all, he was a gentleman of the first order. I enjoyed watching Tiger and Jack with him at the US Open, and a great game at the Redskins box. I'll wear my cowboy boots in his honor.
You will be missed, my friend.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the entire Viragh Family. Skip was such an amazing boss. When the tragic September 11, 2001 struck, Skip NEVER laid any associates off. This proved to all of us how much he really did care for us and our careers. He will be sorely missed.

Skip I owe you so much for the opportunity that you gave me when you hired me at Rydex. You took a chance on me that very few people would ever take. By taking this chance I will always be in debt to you. I will keep striving to be the best associate I can be. I told you five years ago that if you would hire me I would one day surprise you. Well last January I accomplished that one goal.
I know one day we will meet again. I want to assure you that I will never stop trying to improve. As I want nothing more than you to pat me on my back once again. As I never told you this but nothing made me happier than receiving a pat on the back from you. You were and will always be my inspiration.

Skip was a great friend and business associate. While demanding my best, he was always fair and generous. There are a lot of ways to describe Skip including honest, committed, diligent, thoughtful, and considerate of others. Particularly over this past year, I have seen an unselfish concern for others that has truly amazed me. His careful consideration of the impact of his illness on Becky, his mother, daughters, siblings and numerous friends and associates has been a real blessing and encouragement to me and others. Skip, you will be missed and remembered.

He was my Dad. I will miss him so much. I loved him so, he had some amazing qualities, of course if you new him you new what those qualities were. We should all be so fortunate if we even had 1 or 2 of his many different qualities. I very proud of him. I was very fortunate to be his daughter. He has two grandchildren by me, named Angela Nicole Brocato who his 11, and Dillon Zachery Brocato who is 3. They loved their Papa very much. I know my grief and saddness is overwhelming, he was loved by many. He will never be forgotten. In Loving Memory of a Great Father, Super Grandpa, Great Friend, and of course a very generous, selfless man, all of who was my Dad, Skip Viragh
