Here's Marc....

I was His student in 1959 -1961 at Bronx science. He was the Best science.teacher or professor in all my school years ... he exited me. In addition I also had Professor Phillip Baumel, Abe's brother, at CCNY.

My belated condolences to the Baumel family. I was a student of Mr. Baumel's at the Bronx HS of Science for two years from 1965-1967. I remember him fondly for his wonderful enthusiasm and encouragement, and for his great sense of humor. It was a blessing to have known him. I wish the best for his family.

I was a student of his at Stuyvesant HS. It was in 1975. He inspired me to become a physicist. I owe him. Blessed memory.

Baumel Family:

I saw the notice in the NYTimes with mention that Mr. Baumel taught physics at the Bronx HS of Science. I mentioned this to my father, Charles Hellman, who also taught physics at Science, from the school's opening through the mid-80s. He told me that he remembered Mr. Baumel fondly from their time teaching at Science together. My father is now approaching 105 years old and is in reasonably good health. From the text of the notice and the other comments in this book I can...

Dear Betty: We are so saddened by your loss. Abe was our principal and mentor. He was an educator whose decisions were based on what was best to help the students aspire and achieve. We adored him as a friend with whom we could converse on the widest range of topics. He was brilliant, kind, compassionate and a consumate gentleman.
Our deepest sympathy to you and your beautiful family.

My sincere condolences to the family during this time of grief. Isaiah 33 : 24.

Dear Mrs. Baumel & Family,
I cannot tell you how deeply saddened I am that Abe has gone home. However, I am also happy because I know there is another angel watching over us now. I say angel because that is what he was here on earth. I loved him and I grieve with you all.

Mr Baumel. I can only smile as I recall the caring, kind, witty, intelligent man that allowed us to completely take over his office each and every day. You were a rare combination of intellect, compassion, dedication and joy. Very much the same words you wrote in my yearbook. I read them often these days. I will miss knowing that you are part of this world but I know you are now making the next world a better place. Rest in peace my dear teacher and friend
