My belated condolences to the Baumel family. I was a student of Mr. Baumel's at the Bronx HS of Science for two years from 1965-1967. I remember him fondly for his wonderful enthusiasm and encouragement, and for his great sense of humor. It was a blessing to have known him. I wish the best for his family.

Baumel Family:
I saw the notice in the NYTimes with mention that Mr. Baumel taught physics at the Bronx HS of Science. I mentioned this to my father, Charles Hellman, who also taught physics at Science, from the school's opening through the mid-80s. He told me that he remembered Mr. Baumel fondly from their time teaching at Science together. My father is now approaching 105 years old and is in reasonably good health. From the text of the notice and the other comments in this book I can see that Mr. Baumel was a wonderful person.

Dear Betty: We are so saddened by your loss. Abe was our principal and mentor. He was an educator whose decisions were based on what was best to help the students aspire and achieve. We adored him as a friend with whom we could converse on the widest range of topics. He was brilliant, kind, compassionate and a consumate gentleman.
Our deepest sympathy to you and your beautiful family.

Dear Mrs. Baumel & Family,
I cannot tell you how deeply saddened I am that Abe has gone home. However, I am also happy because I know there is another angel watching over us now. I say angel because that is what he was here on earth. I loved him and I grieve with you all.

Mr Baumel. I can only smile as I recall the caring, kind, witty, intelligent man that allowed us to completely take over his office each and every day. You were a rare combination of intellect, compassion, dedication and joy. Very much the same words you wrote in my yearbook. I read them often these days. I will miss knowing that you are part of this world but I know you are now making the next world a better place. Rest in peace my dear teacher and friend

Mr. Baumel was a very intelligent man who was always learning new words and prided himself in his learning a new word everyday. Besides being so educated he was a true mensch. He helped me so much in getting into New Dorp. Bless him.

You were part of my life for only three years at Stuyvesant but you will always have a place in my heart Thank you for sharing your life with all of us. You are one of a kind and I am blessed to have known you. I wish I could see that sweet smile in the physics office just one more time Rest in peace dear sweet Mr Baumel.

My condolences to the Baumel family. His passing is a great loss to all of us. As a student at Stuyvesant (class of 1976) I came to know him through the Westinghouse competition. More than anyone else, Mr. Baumel embodied the intellect, passion and spirit of Stuyvesant.

With deepest condolences to the Baumel family and many thanks for sharing your husband and father with us. I remember Mr. Baumel during my New Dorp years - it was tough being a new principal in a nearly bankrupt city. But he kept the students first and kept us moving forward. Thanks, Mr. Baumel.
