ADDIE JACOBSEN Obituary
As she had long wished, Addie Jean Jacobsen died peacefully in her sleep in the home that she and her husband built together. She was born in Texas on November 26, 1921. When she was four, her family moved to Los Angeles where she would later meet Neil Leonard Jacobsen to whom she was married for 53 years at the time of his death in 1993. Theirs was a profound and joyful partnership. They lived in Fresno, Ca. for most of their marriage and raised two children, Robert (who died in 2001) and Linda. Jean was always very active in her children's lives, serving as a leader of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scout groups. She also worked with the PTA while they attended junior high and high school, being elected President and awarded an honorary life membership for her service. She often said that these years were some of her favorite, raising her children and actively participating in and attending events in which they performed. She and her husband also formed many life long friendships with other similarly involved parents and neighbors. Jean was the consummate homemaker and do-it-yourselfer, whether entertaining, home decorating, gardening or sewing. When her children were grown, she began working as a medical transcriber at Valley Children's Hospital, eventually becoming the highly respected Medical Staff Coordinator. She retired in 1985 after 23 years of exemplary service. From an early age, Jean loved children, and she devoted herself to children throughout her life. She turned every holiday and birthday into a joyful occasion and provided a home away from home for the children in her extended family and the friends of her children. She is lovingly remembered by all the many beneficiaries of her wisdom, positive outlook and unconditional love. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Jean Jacobsen; her daughter-in-law, Linda Lee Jacobsen; her grandchildren, Michael and Nicole, her great grandchildren Kayla, Logan, Michelle and Sean; her devoted brother, Frank Martin and his wife Barbara of Orange, Ca., and many nieces and nephews. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral service. She will be interred beside her husband and son at Belmont Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in her name to Valley Children's Hospital or Optimal Hospice (whose kind and professional services to her and her family were so invaluable during the last months of her life) or to your own favorite charity.
