AILEEN PEI

PEI--Aileen Chiang.

Died peacefully on October 26th in her Manhattan home. She was 104. Born in Beijing China in 1912 a year after the Republic of China came into being, she was a true daughter of modern China. Aileen was the daughter of Chiang Lu-Foo, charge d'affaire for the Chinese Embassy in Rome and Paris in the late 1920's. Aileen attended convent school in Paris and was in London when she met her future husband, Tsuyee Pei, Manager of the Bank of China in Shanghai who was 20 years her senior. They married in Paris in 1930 and returned to Shanghai where they lived until 1949. Tsuyee died in 1982. Aileen is survived by her daughter, Patricia Pei Tang and granddaughter, Penelope August and great-granddaughter Rowan. She is also survived by three step children, I.M. Pei, Denise Sze and Y.T. Pei. Friends may call Tuesday 5 to 7pm. A service will be held at Frank E. Campbell, 1076 Madison Avenue at 81st on Wednesday, 9:30am, November 2, 2016.
