SMITH, Alan D. Of Boston entered into rest May 28, 2013. Beloved husband of Susan Florence Smith. Devoted father of Lily Florence Smith. Dear son of Elaine (Kottock) Smith & the late Arnold Robert Smith. Loving brother of Carolyn Levitan & her husband Kurt. Cherished son in law of Charlotte Florence and her late husband Leonard Florence. Brother in law of Faye Florence & Rick Alexander and Mark & Pam Florence. Adored uncle to his nieces & nephews. A Principal in the Boston law office, Alan worked with Fish & Richardson for nearly 20 years and was a valued member of their litigation team, leading the firm's international business development efforts for many years. He was well known and respected in the international legal community, having served as Program Chair for the 2008 AIPPI World Congress in Boston and as a member of AIPPI's Executive Committee. Having been an Eagle Scout, he was committed to charitable causes. His philanthropy included organizations focusing primarily on children, seniors and medical causes. Those who knew Alan will remember his deep devotion to his family. He especially cherished their time together on Nantucket.
