I am so sorry to learn of Jake's passing. He was a very decent man and a great superintendent. It was a pleasure to work for him during my time in Victoria.

Dear Eva,
So very sorry to hear about the loss of Jake. What a great guy he was! And thank you for putting the notice in the Victoria Times Colonist. It prompted a long discussion between Susan and me. We shared some decidedly colourful reminiscences!

When I arrived in Oliver, BC in 1947, Jake was my first teacher. He was very young and enthusiastic. He was a dedicated teacher and certainly served the BC and Alberta teaching systems with distinction.
My deep sorrow to Eva and the family for the loss of a great man.

I immediately flipped back in my memory to having you for a swim at Grannie & Grampie Tait's pool when you brought an Australian, Tony Madigan, (a boxer, I think) to visit Oliver after the (then called) British Empire Games, in...
