I am so glad that this guest book has been kept open. I just learned of his passing. Dr. Washington treated my mother for non-Hodgkins lymphoma from 2001 until Katrina in 2005. Then she was with me in Mandeville. Of course Dr. Washington's office was not available after that so when her cancer had to be treated again, about a year later, we had to find another oncologist. We found good doctors who my mother was happy with, but Dr. Washington was the best of the best. I have had many friends with cancer since then and I always judged their treatment on the way that Dr. Washington was with my mother. I have always said that if you had to be treated for cancer, he was the next best thing to God. We were so blessed to have him as our doctor. I pray that my friends with cancer are as fortunate as we were. My mother passed away in 2007 at the age of 85.

I was saddened this morning to hear that Dr. Alexander Washington, my oncologist, had passed away. I was upset that I did not have a chance to pay my respects to him. He would always tell me that he errored on the side of caution and that is probably the reason why I am still here as a four time cancer survivor. He will always remain in my heart. Now he is resting in paradise.

Dearest Pam,
For the longest time have been trying to call and left multiple messages. Was concerned because Alex always answered on his cell phone. Even went on to Louisiana woman golf association to get your cell number. I assume you were dealing with Alex's illness. I know he was dealing with his kidney failure for many years. Ronna and I just wanted to let you know how much we loved both of you and we send you our deepest condolences. Alex was my Chief Resident and I owe much of my success as a physician to his special tutelage and integrity which was beyond reproach. We would very much love to maintain our friendship so when you are ready and have a moment, please give us a call or send an e-mail. Much love to the entire family.

I am extending condolences and prayers to the Washington family during this time of bereavement.
Alex's mother, Mrs. Washington, was my teacher at Concord High in Vidalia, Louisiana. Later, she was a colleague at Vidalia Upper Elementary School in 1970.
Gleevia was a classmate and friend and I share deeply the sorrow that she must be experiencing now.
Mr. Washington Sr. attended Young's Chapel in Vidalia where my parents were members.
Blessings!

Brilliant and most caring physician. Always a joy to be with Alex, His conversations and comments were always of substance. You could easily get the feeling that he had a deep sense of fairness and respect for whoever he was interacting with. I learned a lot from Alex and looking at him, I frequently thought of qualities that I wanted to see in my children and grandchildren. Quite an honor having worked with him. Will miss him. My condolence to his family and friends. Salvador Caputto, New Orleans

No sister could have asked for a more caring or protective big brother. Throughout his life, he continued to look out for me, especially if I had to travel: "Don't forget your phone charger. Did you remember to bring a flashlight? Be sure to stop at a hotel if you get too tired on the road...." A typical phone message might say: "Just checking on you. Hope you're taking care of yourself and not neglecting your own needs...." My brother's genuine concern for others endeared him to those who knew him best, both personally and professionally. We will treasure our memories of him, speak of him lovingly and often, and marvel at his remarkable capacity for kindness for the rest of our lives.
