Alice Chiappori Obituary

Alice Chiappori

Alice Chiappori died peacefully at home in her sleep on April 25, 2017 at the age of 90 years young. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 1, 1926 to Ray and Pauline Darr, both characters in their own right. She came by her own whimsy and joyous spirit honestly.

Alice grew up in Toledo, the apple of her parent's eye in a house full of joy, lots of friends and legendary card games. Everything changed when she attended Miami University and met her true love, best friend, and co-conspirator in life, John "Chip" Chiappori although it took him a while to convince her of this. They were happily married on March 20, 1948 and never looked back. After 62 years, Chip preceded Alice in death in 2010 but anyone who knew them can picture their joyous reunion on Tuesday.

Alice was kind and caring to all while at the same time having an impish, wicked sense of humor. She loved finding the perfect sarcastic birthday card or mystifying friends with little pranks. This joie de vivre never ebbed as she more recently dressed up as "Pablo" at a Halloween event at her home at the Woodlands, speaking only Spanish to her baffled friends. While raising their two daughters, Kathy (Mark) Foletta and Linda Jones, Alice and Chip loved to host card parties for their friends, square dancing, complete with elaborate western outfits, traveling around the USA and Italy, and relaxing with a nightly glass of wine or beer. League bowling was a weekly event, something Alice continued with Wii bowling at the Woodlands. She was an avid reader and loved cooking for her family, especially Italian dinners.

Alice was always easy-going, finding the best in everyone. Her love was unconditional and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. The day before she passed was spent with the great-grandchildren she loved, playing and cuddling, her infectious grin on her face as her friends joined in the moment. Alice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, her beloved son-in-law, John Jones, preceded her in death. Alice is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Mark) and Linda; grandchildren, Nicholas (Ashley) Jones, Lindsay and Hannah Foletta; and great-grandchildren, Harper and Remi Jones.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, May 2, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Road, Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at Noon in Newcomer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
