Allan Rappold Obituary

Dr. Allan Patrick Rappold passed away in Houston, TX on the morning of September 3, 2024, at the age of 77 years old. Born March 5, 1947, to his late parents Charles and Rita (Koster), he grew up and lived a majority of his life in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was one of 4 children – Charles (deceased), Kenneth (deceased) and Sharon (Astugue). Allan attended Holy Cross High School where he was a State Champion in football (1963) and First Team All American Running Back (1965). He attended Mississippi State University but graduated from LSUNO and ultimately from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry where he had a career of teaching Freshman Operative for over 36 years. As a teacher, he has influenced the lives of countless students. Allan was also a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years – Madeleine (Protti) whom he adored and was with since the age of 14. He leaves behind his only son, Brian (Jennifer), and his 2 cherished grandchildren, Hannah (19) and Addison (16) whom he will keep a watchful eye on as he joins his wife, their Mimi, in Heaven. It has been said that what is important is not how long of a life you live, but how well you live it. His grit, discipline, willfulness, determination and unwavering moral compass served as an example to all who knew him. He was someone who made the right choices, even when the right choice was the hardest thing to make. As the Lord has seen it fit to take you from this world, I cannot question why. I have peace in the knowledge that your pain has ended and that you are reunited with the love of your life. At the request of Allan, all services will be held privately. He will be interred and laid to eternal rest in the All Saints Mausoleum at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans, Louisiana. Friends, colleagues and former students are welcome to join the family to share stories of his life and accomplishments at a celebration of life Thursday, September 12th from 6-9pm at: Oscar's, 2027 Metairie Road, Metairie, LA 70005. (Adults only please) In lieu of flowers, Allan asked that any charitable donation be made to the profession and institution he dedicated his life's work to – LSUSD. Dr. Rap was a tough but fair instructor, and was one of the very best LSUSD had to offer when I attended between 1996-2000. He no doubt made me a better dentist. Rest in peace, Dr. Rap.

Dr. Rap's influence helped me be a better person and a better dentist. As dental professors go he was my favorite. He held himself and his students to a high standard that propelled and motivated many to achieve more. I am so very grateful to have known him. Thanks for everything Dr. Rap. You're the best.

Dr Rappold was my distant hero in the early 1960s. I felt lucky and very proud that he called me a good friend in the 2020s. He was so proud of his
granddaughters. I will miss him so much. Condolences to his family.

Brian and Family,
We are so saddened to learn of Rap´s passing. He was an excellent teacher and colleague and the most excellent clinician that I ever known. Amidst the sadness there is joy in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved wife, Madeline.

Dr Rap was the toughest instructor. He made generations of LSUSD grads better dentists. And when push came to shove Dr Rap helped guide me through a difficult time. You are missed. Brian `02

As a teammate of Alan and longtime coach, I can say that he was the toughest Running Back I have ever seen. I was a Guard in front of him and every time I had to pull and trap, I knew that if I didn't get there fast enough, he would run right over me. When he graduated he

Graduated with him at Holy Cross and was a classmate. He was the epitome of class and humility even at that young age. One hell of a running back.
