Amparo V. Talamantes (Big Grandma) was 98 years old when she passed away in Odessa, Texas on July 28, 2024.
She was born in Manuel Benevides Chihuahua, Mexico to Antonio Villanueva and Sara Galindo. She became a legal citizen of the states in her 20's. She and Manuel, her late husband, picked Monahans Texas to raise their children and create a beautiful life.
She was a feisty resilient homemaker; she loved her family. She loved watching her kids grow up and starting to watch them have their own families, she got to watch her grandkids grow up her great grandkids grow up and she got to watch most of her great great grandkids till the oldest turned 9.
She loved living on her own, she loved to drive herself to the beauty shop to get her hair curled in rollers, she loved to bake (empanadas were her specialty), she loved sewing, she loved watching her baseball and if baseball was on you better not be talking!
Amparo is preceded in death by her late husband, Manuel Talamantes; her son, Robert Talamantes, and her grandson, Chris Molina.
She is survived by her children, Rosa Sanchez, Raquel (Marcos) Polanco, Nellie Agundiz, and Rene (Elva) Talamantes, Lorina Valenzuela (daughter in-law). 12 grandkids: Rafael, Rene, Ricky, Russell and Robert Sanchez. Ronnie, Sara and Phillip Molina. Brandy, Tommy and Oscar Talamantes. Dionne Talamantes. 20 great grandkids: Brittany, Brianna, Matthew, Milani, Abrielle, Camilla, Christopher, and Kingston Sanchez. Elvis, and K'lee Molina. Brandon, Sydney, and Olivia Vasquez. Gabby and Taylor Molina. Marisela and Isabella Armendariz. Alyssa, Brooke and Sean Bailey. 12 great great grandkids: Luke, Colton, Maverick, Bentley, soon to be baby Bexley, Zayden, Oliver, Landon, Colt, Skylar, Sawyer, and Hayes.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary scheduled at 7:00 PM at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be held at the St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church in Monahans Texas at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 1, 2024, with Father Joe officiating. A burial will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers are as follows: Rafael Sanchez Jr., Rene Sanchez, Richard Sanchez, Russell Sanchez, Robert Sanchez, Oskar Talamantes, Ronnie Molina, and Phillip Molina.
