BOWDEN, Ann Foster, 88, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glyde F. Foster and Julia Little Foster; along with her two sisters, Judy Brown and Nell Young; and her brother, Glyde Franklin Foster Jr. Ann was also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Maurice Wright Bowden in 2016. Ann is survived by her stepdaughter, Sharon Bowden Harrison and her husband, Steve; and her grandchildren, Megan and Zachary Evans along with Virginia and Rachel Harrison. She also leaves behind her dear friend and sister-in-law, Betty Foster; nephew, Walter Young (Becky); and nieces, Julie Young, Neale Foster, Anne Brown Bare (Mark), Jill Foster (Rich), Lisbeth Poulos (Peter); along with numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews, who all fondly remember her as 'Ann Jimmy.' She will also be missed by her husband's family, who loved her and thank her for her dedication to Maurice. Born Ann James Foster in Cumberland County, Virginia, she graduated from Longwood College with a degree in teaching and went on to complete her master's in education from the University of Virginia. She spent the majority of her long teaching career at Manchester High School in Chesterfield County, Virginia as an English teacher and served many years as the head of the department until her retirement in 1993. After her retirement, she continued to dedicate her time teaching children to read, as reading was one of her great passions. She and Maurice also enjoyed visiting family in North Carolina, watching Washington Football and of course keeping up with their grandkids, whom they cherished and loved very much. Services will be held Saturday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at Woody's Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Virginia. There will be a reception to receive family and friends immediately following the service. A private interment will be held for family at a later time in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate your time and/or resources to a local school or charity.

It's hard to believe it's been a year since Mrs Bowden left us. I know she is missed by her family and friends. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. She was a great teacher. Witty, never a dull moment in her Senior English class and she was so caring and dedicated to teaching. Sending fond memories from the Manchester High School Class of 1965

We were in Ms. Posey's senior English class her first year at Manchester High. It was 1961-62. She was absolutely one of our most respected and truly amazing teachers. She was always upbeat and taught us not only English, but also started us on our journey to adulthood. She was one of the very best.

I had Mrs. Ann Bowden as an English teacher at Manchester High School. I loved her dearly. She was beautiful, intelligent, kind, funny and as I remember students did not act up or get in trouble in her class. We all respected her so much that no one wanted to give her a hard time. She was remarkable. Condolences to the family and friends. I am so sorry for your loss and pain.
