With great sadness, we announce the death of our mother, Dr. Ann Turner Chapin, 88, of Richmond, Va. Dr. Chapin passed away peacefully at her home on September 3, 2025. Born on April 7, 1937, to Charles V. Turner and Betsy L. Turner, Ann grew up in Richmond and attended Thomas Jefferson High School. Subsequently she attended several colleges, including Bennington College, Vermont, Philips University, Oklahoma, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the University of Virginia, before earning her Doctorate of Education from Virginia Tech. She dedicated much of her career to Richmond Public Schools, serving as a counselor at Thompson Middle School and later at Lucille Brown Middle School until her retirement. Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed reading, watching old movies, walking in the mall with her friends and spending time with her beloved cat, Stella. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children, Chris Chapin (Debbie) and Carey Rowland (Ric); and her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.

My condolences to the Chapin family. I had the honor of working with Dr. Chapin at Thompson Middle School. I will always remember her as kind and so helpful. She helped me to create bright moments during my 11 years at Thompson. I pray that the peace of God be with each of you as you move forward with the sweet memories of Dr. Chapin.
