Ann Dupuy Obituary

Ann Kaplan Dupuy, 71, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 following complications from a pulmonary illness. Known for her fiery spirit and sharp wit, she was a fast friend to many. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 31, 1950 to the late Florence Knopf Kaplan and Benjamin J. Kaplan. Following her father's death, her mother later married Dr. Aaron L. Arnold of Indianapolis, Indiana. Ann graduated from Newcomb College in 1972. She married Homer Joseph "Seph" Dupuy, III. They later ended their marriage but kept a close friendship and were loving parents and grandparents. She continued to reside in New Orleans for the remainder of her life. In 1976, she and her dear friend Ann Holden founded Holden & Dupuy Interior Design. Many came to know "The Anns" through their renowned design aesthetic, which was published in numerous magazines and newspapers including Architectural Digest, Veranda, House & Garden, Metropolitan Home, Southern Accents, and The New York Times. While she was deeply proud of Holden & Dupuy, nothing made her happier than her children and grandchildren. After retiring, Ann cherished time with them and turned her artistic vision toward a newfound passion for watercolor painting. She will be greatly missed by her enormous circle of friends and admirers. Ann is survived by son, Benjamin Arnold Dupuy, and his wife, Virginia Sweet Simmons Dupuy, and children, Florence Virginia Dupuy and Kathryn Simmons Dupuy, as well as daughter, Jane Kaplan Dupuy, her children, Josie Claire Leyens and Henry Kaplan Leyens, and their father, Jon F. "Chip" Leyens. The family wishes to thank her physician, Dr. Charles C. Smith, III and Touro Infirmary LCMC Health. A private celebration will be held at a later date. Continuing Ann's legacy of supporting the creative arts and scholarship, memorial contributions may be made to the Louise S. McGehee School or Isidore Newman School in her grandchildren's names. My most sincere condolences to Ann's family. Ann had been a close friend of mine during highschool in Louisville. Years later, we met again when she married Seph Dupuy whom I had known during college at Spring Hill.
I will always remember Ann's indominable intelligence, wry wit and creative brilliance. Though I am sad for her passing I join her family and friends in celebrating Ann's many contributions during this life.
