ANN LITTLEJOHN Obituary

LITTLEJOHN--Ann,

of New York, NY passed peacefully on July 1, 2017 after a brief period of declining health. Ann Littlejohn was an award-winning photographer specializing in travel, nature, and the environment. Since 1984, she photographed in more than twenty countries including Argentina, Borneo, China, Cuba, Bolivia, Egypt, Guatemala, Madagascar, Thailand, and India. Ann was an active member of Professional Women Photographers based in Manhattan. Earlier in her professional life Ann worked at ABC and then at NBC in Manhattan. Later, she was an instrumental player in the film and TV division at MOMA. Ann was the widow of Francis "Fritz" N. Littlejohn, a pioneer of television news. They were married for over 40 years until his death in 2005. Ann and Fritz were well-liked residents of the Village of Kismet on Fire Island from the mid-1960s until Fritz's death in 2005. Ann was affectionately known as "the Deer Lady" for her popular photographs of the island's deer. Ann was politically active and an ardent supporter of women's issues. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Bella Abzug in her successful Congressional run in 1972. More recently she campaigned for Hillary Clinton, both in her successful Senate run, and for her failed bid for the 2008 Democratic nomination. Ann was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 1, 1932, the third of four children and the only daughter of Bernard and Helen Keane Gilhuly. Ann graduated from the Roger Ludlowe High School class of 1950 in Fairfield, CT, and was a graduate of Marquette University. In addition to her husband and parents, Ann was pre-deceased by two of her brothers, Bernard Gilhuly of Fairfield, CT and Robert Gilhuly of Cos Cob, CT. She is survived by her brother William Gilhuly of Fairfield, CT and many nieces and nephews who cherish their memories with her. Ann's friends and former co- workers are invited to celebrate her life at a memorial service on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 3:30pm at Frank E. Campbell "The Funeral Chapel" Madison Ave at (81st St.)

I knew Ann from Fire Island and I am so happy to own some of her beautiful phots. We often traded....my pottery for her prints. I had tried to contact her in July but to no avail. I had no idea that she had passed. I wish I could attend her memorial but I am leaving tomorrow for Mexico. I will miss her passionate energy and her enthusiasm for life and all of nature's beauties.

To the Littlejohn Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
