Annette Marsh Obituary

Mrs. Annette Johnson Marsh passed away peacefully in her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Saturday, April 17, 2021.
Mrs. Marsh was born on October 10, 1930. A native of Siloam, Georgia, Mrs. Marsh was a devoted homemaker as well as a longtime high school Language Arts teacher. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgia State College for Women and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University Teachers College. She taught for 30 years in New York, Atlanta, and Hall Country, and enjoyed tutoring at Brenau Academy during her retirement. Mrs. Marsh loved music and had a beautiful voice. While living in New York, Mrs. Marsh studied voice with Olaf Olson and Stevenson Barrett. While teaching in Atlanta, Mrs. Marsh sang with the Atlanta Opera Arts Association, a forerunner of the Atlanta Opera Company, and was a soloist at North Avenue Presbyterian Church and Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. After moving to Gainesville with her family from Cobb County in 1977, Mrs. Marsh continued to be active in the arts, both as a performing vocalist and a supporter of the arts. She and her husband, Charlie, served as charter members on the Lanier Symphony Board for which she was recording secretary. They were volunteers at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Auxiliary, and she was a member of the Northeast Georgia Oratorio Singers, and the Progressive Arts Study Club. She was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville where she sang for many years in the Chancel Choir and was a longtime and avid member of the Struggler Sunday School class. She was also active in Presbyterian Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Johnson of Siloam; her husband, Mr. Charles M. Marsh of Gainesville; and brothers Mr. Charles H. Johnson of Gainesville, GA, Mr. Carroll C. Johnson of Lake Sinclair, GA and Mr. George G. Johnson, Jr. of Dallas, GA. Mrs. Marsh is survived by her son, Devon Marsh, of Winston-Salem, NC; her daughter and son-in-law, Reed and Trimble Green of New Orleans, LA; five grandchildren, Will, Annelise, and Maclean Marsh and Edward and Charlotte Green; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charles H. Johnson Sacred Music Scholarship Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 800 S Enota Drive NE, Gainesville, GA 30501 or to Good News at Noon, 979 David Street, Gainesville, GA 30501. Following cremation, a private graveside service and interment will be held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA.
