VOLPE, Anthony D. Anthony D. Volpe, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Hartford Hospital, on December 28, 2010. Born in Pratola Peligna, Italy, he was the son of the late Emilio and Lucia (DeAngelo) Volpe. Tony had a successful career as a restaurateur in Hartford, where he owned Volpe's Cafe for many years. Tony was a great sports enthusiast, this evolved from he himself being an outstanding athlete at Bulkeley High School where he excelled in football and basketball. He later went on to play semi-pro football for the Hartford Blues. He would later derive great enjoyment in watching his sons and grandchildren play sports. In his later years he would spend a lot of his time fishing and relaxing at his vacation home at West Hill Lake and in Rhode Island. He was a caring, giving father and grandfather who enjoyed his family to the fullest. His sense of humor provided us with many light hearted moments that will be greatly missed. There will also be a tremendous void at the table he shared daily with his "breakfast buddies". He is survived by his daughters Dorrie Volpe, of Wethersfield, Susan Queno and her husband Michael of Wethersfield, sons Emilio of West Hartford and Anthony Jr. of Hartford. He also leaves nine grandchildren Deena and Anthony Volpe, Thomas and Dana Queno, John, Daniel and Rachel Zewinski, Emilio and Mary Volpe. He is also survived by three other children Vanessa, Nicholas, Mario, a brother Damian of Naples, Florida, a sister Anna and brother-in-law Dominic Fava of Hallandale, Florida, a niece Carole Volpe-Hutchinson, a special nephew and godson, David Volpe. Tony was predeceased by Dolores Volpe his wife of 34 years, three brothers, Frank, Chet and Americo. The family would like to thank the cardiac ICU unit, Bliss 10, for all the special care and support they provided our father and family during this difficult time. The funeral will be Monday, (January 3, 2011), 9 a.m. from The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke. Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St. Wethersfield. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, 1-5 p.m. at Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home. Donations can be made to the Anthony Volpe Memorial Scholarship Fund. Please send all donations to Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 290338, Wethersfield, CT 06129- 0338. To share a memory with the family, please visit, www.dillonbaxter.com.
