Not sure what to say?

The loss of Shelly Mann leaves a space not easily filled. Whenever I hear Simon & Garfunkel's "The Boxer", my mind always brings forward a view of Shelly, back in the '70s, standing next to his red Pontiac Grand Prix on a Saturday morning.

To Shelly's Family:
I knew Shelly as a kind and generous man who cared about other people. As a sports columnist, I had the opportunity to talk with Shelly on many occasions at various boxing events and even to write about him and his love for boxing. I was fortunate enough to see him briefly at the last Sundance Square "Fight Night," which I attended solely as a spectator with two of my grown sons. My heart goes out to all of you but Shelly had a wonderful life, doing what he loved...

I worked the door with Shelly at the New West Club starting in 1984. He was always so kind and I thought very highly of him. I am so sorry for your loss. He was one in a million and will be missed by many.
