DR. ARTHUR MARTIN BERNSTEIN

BERNSTEIN, Dr. Arthur Martin Passed away peacefully, two weeks shy of his 99th birthday, at the Cape Cod Hospital, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Elaine. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Barnet and Esther. After his graduation from the veterinary school at Middlesex University (now Brandeis University), he started his career in Kingston, Massachusetts, before moving with his family to Cape Cod in the mid-1950s, to open his own practice on Route 28 in West Yarmouth. He and Elaine also built and owned The Animal Inn in Forestdale, Massachusetts. He was a president and longtime member of the Cape Cod Synagogue and loved his weekly poker games, trying out all the Cape's restaurants, and spending time with friends and family. Arthur is survived by three children, Rebecca McVeigh and her husband, Rod of Oakland, New Jersey, Michael Bernstein and his wife, Mary-Alyce of Yarmouthport, Massachusetts and Jonathan Bernstein and his wife, Dr. Debbie Eisen of Boston, Massachusetts. He was also the proud grandfather of Andrew, Alex and Ari McVeigh, Ethan, Owen, Isaac and Hannah Bernstein, Emily and Aaron Bernstein; and great-grandfather to Rose and Quinn McVeigh. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 26, at 9:30 a.m., at the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter St., Hyannis. Burial will follow immediately after the funeral service, at the Mosswood Cemetery, 280 Putnam Ave., Cotuit. In addition, the family will be accepting condolences at the Cape Cod Synagogue on Tuesday, August 27, from 7 to 9 p.m., with a Shiva minyan, at 7.
