Those of us who had the pleasure and privilege of knowing Art would surely use words such as loving, intelligent, strong, generous and funny to describe him. He was a loving and dear husband, a supportive and caring father, a kind and fun grandfather, a creative and nurturing teacher, an...
Mr. Hiatt as I knew him was a kind and gentle man dedicated to his profession and his students. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends. He will be missed.

I was blessed to have been a student of Art’s, during my years at Wilcox. He did his best to teach me Mathematics. We transitioned from a student/teacher relationship to that of being friends, as we both enjoyed years and years of Wilcox High School reunion events. He claims I helped him learn to write poetry. I think he had “the touch” all along. He was a quick wit with a genuine touch of sincerity. Art had a wide knowledge of many subjects. And he loved sharing his wisdom, and we...

I never had Art Hiatt for a teacher at Wilcox, but it really impressed me that he would come to our reunions. He has attended more reunions than I have! I am only sorry that I didn't know him better. He was a geat guy!!

Art was one of the first teachers I encountered when my family moved to Santa Clara from rural western Maryland at the beginnng of my sophomore year in 1961, the year Wilcox opened. He was a teacher respected by many. He will be missed.

I had known that Art was very ill, but I wasn't sure what to say to him, so a few days before his passing I sent him an email. Basically it said: I have good memories and thank you (for being such a great teacher). All the best always.... He responded, shifting the attention from himself: "I can still hear your beautiful voice...." I say: that's class....Ciao Art... maybe you can show the angel's how they get from point A to point B...

Art was an excellent teacher and he was always very enthusiastic about Mathmatics when he taught us at Wilcox High School. He was an inspiration to many of his students. Our Class of 1964 was the first graduating class and Art always tried to attend every reunion we had. He kept in touch with so many of us over the years. He had the most wonderful sense of humor and we will all miss him very much. Sue (West) Calarrudo Wilcox, Class of 1964
