Augustus A. Beekman

Best man my Dad ever knew.... speaks about him to this day. My Dad was Matthew Farrell, retired FDNY, Manhattan Borough Command.

To the Beekman Family,

My deepest condolences on your loss. Mr. Beekman was a fine man and role model. Although many years have passed, I fondly remember the time spent with your family on 198th Street. May God bless you through this difficult time.

I was deeply saddened in learning of your loss. I fondly remember Mr. Beekman teaching me how to swim at the Andrew Jackson H.S. pool along with many other children from St. Pascal Baylon Elementary School. He was one of the most active and influential role models to the St. Pascal Baylon Elementary and High School student body during that time. My deepest sympathy.

Dear Mrs. Beekman, Bernie and Arthur. Words cannot describe just how proud I am to have known Mr. Beekman. At 46 years old I can still remember as if it were yesterday getting in the chiefs car and being driven to Incarnation. I only learned today, from Jeff that Gus passed. I couldn't not leave a note. My memories of 198th street are wrapped with fondness and not a small part was from knowing your family. I can recall walking down the block and that passing the "Beekmans" was almost always accompanied by a big hello from someone. Muriel and family, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. His success and reputation in what is often called "the best job in the world" is unquestioned. As much as my Dad loved working for Gus, he loved him even more as a friend. The freindship you all showed my Mom and Dad over the years will never be forgotten and please know that Gus, and your family will always be in our hearts and prayers.
