B. McBride Obituary

B. Ransom McBride, Col. (Ret) USAF, died Sunday, December 19, 2010. He was born October 17, 1923 in Mount Clemens, MI to the late Benjamin R. McBride, Sr (1st Lt.) and Nanette (Keefe) McBride. Ransom was a West Point Graduate class of 1946. Awarded MPIA from University Of Pittsburgh, and Honors Graduate in Arabic, Georgetown University. Served in the Air Force as fighter, bomber and transport pilot and spent some 22 years in intelligence activities at various levels of command. He was awarded The Legion Of Merit for a tour of duty in Vietnam and awarded The Legion Of Merit (First Oak Leaf Cluster) for intelligence work at Strategic Air Command at Offutt Air Force Base. In retirement he became the Editor of the North Carolina Genealogical Society Magazine for 10 years and a member of the Friends of the Archives.
Ransom is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janet McBride of Cary; five children, Douglas R. McBride and wife, Elaine Malena, James B. McBride, Stuart K. McBride and wife, Marlena, Kyle W. McBride and wife, Kathleen, Nancy M. Yoash and husband, John; six grandchildren, Kyle, Sean, Carolyn and Brendon McBride, Christie and Trevor Yoash.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary. Burial with military honors will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
He was a loving and gentle man and will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Mac was a wonderful man and a true Patriot. It was truly a privilege to know him and he certainly left the world a better place. May the hand of God on your shoulder comfort all members of his extended family.
