Barbara moved to Midland in 1953 when her father was working for Ma (Southwestern) Bell. She attended Sam Houston Elementary, Cowden Junior High and graduated from Midland High School in 1961. All of her siblings, children and grandchildren attended Lee High School and they never let her forget it. She also attended Midland College later in her life.
She worked as a professional seamstress and a stay at home mom for several years. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader and a Camp Fire Girls Leader. She was a bookkeeper at one time. After the children were grown, she worked for B&M Tool Co., M&M Mars, Nestle, and Advantage Christal.
She attended St. Marks UMC, St. Paul's UMC and First Christian Church in Midland, Texas and Florence UMC in Florence, Texas.
She was lucky enough to be married to two "loves of her life", Charles, the father of her children and Al, her man of adventure. When Charles died in 2008, she was lucky enough to meet and marry Al a short time later. During their 13 year marriage, he took her to all the places she had never been. They visited all 50 states, driving the lower 48, 17 countries, 9 Canadian Provinces, and countless cruises.
Barbara's greatest gift was hospitality. She was forever doing things for others. In 2004, she received the President's Volunteer Service Award from George W. Bush. She was a master at throwing parties, including 13 years of Summer Mummer Mayhem. She was an avid quilter and gifted quilts to hundreds of people over the years.
She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, growing and showing Iris, camping, crocheting and knitting, traveling, and reading. She loved her great grandkids and visited them as often as she could. Barbara lived several lifetimes during her time on earth and she will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
