As a child growing up in Roxbury’s Warren Gardens she was my next door neighbor and basically embraced me as her own. I remember the Cape Verdean dishes she cooked as well as her taking me on trips down Wareham and Connecticut for family gatherings. I enjoyed watching her play tennis as well as her teaching me the game in which I’m a true fan of tennis to this day.
