Barbara Hergenrader Obituary

Barbara Joyce Hergenrader

June 10, 1943 - September 13, 2025

Barbara Joyce Hergenrader, age 82 was called to her eternal home on Saturday, September 13, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Barb was born on June 10, 1943 in Nebraska City, Neb. to Fred and Leona Kastens. She grew up with a large, loving family.

Barb graduated from University High School in Lincoln, Neb. in 1961. She was a cheerleader and she served as a class officer.

In 1963 she met the love of her life, Jim, to whom she married August 29, 1964. Together they raised three children, Stacy, James II, and Jonathan.

Barb started her career as a Real Estate Agent in 1977 in Fremont, Neb. and then later moved back to Lincoln, Neb. where she continued her Real Estate career. She designed and built three homes that her family lived in.

She retired as a Regional Fraternal Coordinator for Royal Neighbors of America. Upon retirement, Barb and Jim spent winters on the beach in Florida and summers in southern Colorado overlooking the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

Barb had a strong devotion to Christ. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Ministry and continued to deepen her relationship with God throughout her life.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Barb loved entertaining, playing cards and games. She loved to travel, spending many summers traveling with her husband and grandchildren.

She had a special bond with animals, especially the wild horses and all of the family dogs. Barb loved getting together with family and friends for Husker game days. Friends and family relied on her to help them decorate and arrange their homes, trying different arrangements until she got it "just right".

Barb was a stranger to none and a friend to all. Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 61 years, Jim; daughter, Stacy (Lanz) Hergenrader; sons, James II (Kelly) Hergenrader, Jonathan (Amanda) Hergenrader; grandchildren, Haley (James) Scurto, Alex (Celina) Hergenrader, James III (Samuel) Hergenrader; great grandson, Aris Hergenrader, and many other extended family members.

"Do not cry for me, for I have lived my life to the fullest, and I am now at peace in the arms of my Savior, Jesus Christ."

Visitation for Barb will be on Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, NE 68512.
