Decades ago, when Mrs. Mandel was First Lady of Maryland, I was a volunteer at a summer camp for individuals with muscular dystrophy. Mrs. Mandel made the drive down from Annapolis, just to say hello to us all. She arrived without fanfare, and couldn't have been more kind, speaking to all of us.
