Barbara Murray Obituary
Barbara passed away peacefully in Guilford, CT on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the age of 78. Her humor and good nature were her hallmark, and she will be dearly missed by her family and close friends who were privileged to experience it first-hand.
Born in Stamford on April 18, 1939 to John and Elinor Gavigan, she graduated Stamford High School in 1957 and went on to meet and married Thomas J. Murray in 1961. She worked for many years for Asea Brown Boveri (formerly Combustion Engineering) before retiring in 1995. Barbara enjoyed tending to her flowers and spending time with her family at festive get togethers, although anywhere with her family was her favorite place.
Known affectionately to her grandchildren, whom she adored, as "Grandma Kitty". She spent some of her most cherished years at her grandchildren's school plays, recitals, and ball games. She will be remembered as a woman full of life, with a quick wit.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, husband Thomas, and grandson Jonathan Knebel. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Knebel, and sons Tom (Sherri) and John (Janice), granddaughters Erin, Katie, and Michelle, grandsons Kyle, Chris and Mark, and great-grandson Keegan.
A private burial will be held on Friday Nov. 10 at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, CT.

Dear Barbara and family, I am so sorry about your mom's passing. She was truly a dear friend. I appreciate your sending me a card with the information but I lost your address Barbara. I loved your Mom's honesty the most. We could lay it on the line with each other. I will miss our phone conversations. We worked many years at Combustion/ABB. She was very good at her jobs but took time here and there to chat. I was so upset because I was past due with my phone call...She did tell me that she was diagnosed with cancer and then your card came in the mail! That was quick..Again,she will be missed. I am so sorry to hear about your mom. She was one of the kindest, nicest moms on Snow Crystal Lane. I will always remember happy childhood memories spent with my brothers and all of you.

Barbara will be missed very much at the Gables. We would see and talk to her most Sundays at the dinner table where she would arrive early to work on her crossword puzzle. She watched over and cared about everyone at the table. We appreciated that she didn't miss a thing would tell us if she thought something was going on with our Mom. Her absence will be felt by many at the Gables including us. We are so sorry for you loss.
