Not sure what to say?

Barry was one of the two brightest stars of our class. The other being Joe Alsop. The two of them were in a league of their own. Whatever interests Barry held, we all knew he would be at the top of his field. He lived the dream we all had in those early years.

Barry Scherr was a giant in his field whose work is of enduring significance. He was also a kind and generous colleague. My condolences to his family and friends. Thank you for this lovely story about his life.

My sincere condolences to the entire Scherr family. I knew Barry as an undergraduate in the 1970s and then reconnected with him in recent years as I returned to the Russian studies field after a hiatus of more than two decades. His encouragement and advice helped me immensely. Barry was a model scholar and compassionate human being. It was my immense good fortune to have known and worked with him.

My condolences to the Scherr family. Barry was the sweetest and friendliest relative, and we are so grateful for the time we got to spend with him. It was an honor and a delight to know him and spend time with him. Our hearts are with you.

My condolences and love to, Sylvia, Sonia, David and Charlie. The peace and tranquility with which Barry and the family welcomed a type A cousin was always appreciated. Barry´s graciousness and quiet humor will always be Vermont to me.

Barry was a wonderful mentor and friend to me throughout my career at Dartmouth and since my retirement, as associate dean for the humanities, provost, and then as a friend to me and my husband, Richard Stamelman. He was thoughtful, incisive, supportive, warm, and funny. He had a wonderful laugh. He was a strong leader who modeled integrity and care for his colleagues and spoke eloquently about the importance of the liberal arts. I was incredibly lucky to have him to advise me when I needed...

My condolences to the Scherr family. It was an honor caring for the children and working with their parents. Alan A. Rozycki, MD

I was fortunate to have Barry serve as Associative Dean for the Humanities when I served as Dean of the Faculty. Through his diligence and undraising efforts Dartmouth was able to create the Leslie Humanities Center. Barry was a friend and colleague.

Barry Scherr was a wonderful person of many interests, a dedicated husband and parent and a great friend. My condolences to his family and friends; he touched many people near and far.
