To the VFW and VNVDV:
I want to thank you for everything you have done for our family since being made award of my husband's passing. He was very proud of his military service. Barry and I had the privilege of visiting both Lohne and Baumholder, Germany in late 2007. These are the two locations he was stationed in while in Germany in 1966-1968. In Lohne we were personally greeted and thanked by the mayor and two German Officers that Barry served with while in the US Army. In Baumholder...

Many of us in the VietNam Veterans of Diablo Valley did not know or meet Barry Siders. Some of our members who lived in Danville knew him well through his active involvement with his family. We do know from his son, Jonathan his father was extremely proud of his military service in the...

Dad, I love you with all of my heart and I will never forget you. You have touched so many lives and were such a great person, I know that your memory will live on in others. I will miss you being in my life but I hope that someday the pain of missing you is replaced by the great memories I have had with you.

Barry told me that after he found a fused hand grenade under the seat of his jeep in VietNam he lived each day as if it was to be one extra granted beyond his last had that wartime booby-trap gone off. In the words of General MacArthur, "Old soldiers never die, . . . " The Bear will be missed but not forgotten.
