Bernard "Bud" Simon

My sincere sympathy goes out to all the Simon family over the passing of a dear friend and distant relative to our family, Bernard Simon. After his sister and my great aunt, Collette's passing, I became a telephone friend to Bernard over the years. I will miss his upbeat personality and great stories. I met Mr. Simon serendipitously when I worked for the City of Pacifica when he and Inga lived in Pacifica. Having many Marines in my family, we connected through the USMC and stories he shared of his service on the Solomon Islands and Bougainville. I know I got the PG, not R rated versions. I switched jobs from Pacifica and he moved to Daly City after Inga died, but we remained in touch. I took him to a Veterans Day event with my family one year, and my brother, now a retired USMC Sgt....

My condolences to the Simon Family and friends. I did not personally know Bernard but am a friend of his nephew, Tom Simon. I salute Bernard for his service in WWII. Through the efforts of men like Bernard and the entire U.S. military, my father Adolf Meeuwen was liberated from a Japanese POW camp deep in the jungles of Burma; a release without which I would not be alive.
