What a whimsical creative writer and inspiring mentor dear Bethia was as she catapulted my move from SPIFFS (Folk Fair) and the American Folks Arts Society events to newspaper reporting at the Evening Independent in the late 70s. She was a distant cousin on my Caffery side. Sounds like she had some of the strong family traits of political conviction and gumption. Wish I’d known her!

I remember the first time I was at your house and Bethia brought me through every room and told me stories about her antiques. Bob especially loved her; so did I. I plan to keep in touch even if only through Facebook. You are a very special daughter of Bethia.

Thank you to the many people who have shared their memories of our mother with us, and their condolences. Her service and internment, however, is delayed due to Hurricane Milton. A new date will be announced when available.

We shared our dreams and commitment to causes, with a passion for making our communities a better place. We built memories together, first in St. Petersburg and on her many visits to Washington DC, New York City and the mountains of Western North Carolina. Her perspective on issues, big and small, where...
